Pharma Supply Planning Dashboard
Bring forecasts, wholesaler data, and inventory together in one connected view, so supply teams can spot risks while there's still time to act.
In a 4PL model, day-to-day logistics are handled by an external provider, but someone internally still owns the questions that matter. Is there enough stock? Is the forecast based on a sound read of real demand? Is anything heading the wrong way?
Getting to that picture is harder than it should be. Each wholesalers have different report formats, on different schedules. Forecasts sit separately from sales. Inventory is tracked somewhere else again. Just assembling the information takes time supply teams rarely have.
And the stakes are not abstract. Stock-outs affect patient access. Overstock ties up cash. Short-dated stock becomes write-off risk. These problems are usually only discussed once they're already hard to reverse, partly because flagging a risk early, to a managing director or a wholesaler, takes a clear and credible view to anchor the conversation.
The challenge
This demonstration is based on a fictional small pharma company running a 4PL distribution model in Australia: a portfolio of 13 SKUs across multiple therapeutic areas, logistics managed externally, and product reaching the market through three wholesalers. Under this model, daily operations sit with the provider. What stays in-house is the monitoring, the exceptions, and the forward-looking supply decisions.
The data is synthetic, but reflects how small-to-medium pharm companies operate in the Australian market.
The scenario
The dashboard is organised around the three focus questions a supply team keeps having to answer.
Can we trust the forecast? Forecast accuracy and bias are shown together to highlight not just forecast error, but recurring patterns that planners can act on.
Is demand keeping pace with supply? Ex-factory shipments and in-market sales are viewed together to provide an early indication that demand or supply plans may need to change.
Is inventory health? Distribution centre (4PL provider) and the wholesalers’ inventories are monitored using measures that reflect how each is managed, with key exceptions surfaced early.
Rather than showing every available metric, the dashboard focuses on the information supply, finance, and commercial teams need to understand what's happening and where attention is needed.
The approach
Demand & Supply Planning
Understand forecast quality and inventory health at a glance, with the key measures that show whether supply plans are on track.
Shown at summary level. The live version drills to SKU detail.
Sell-in vs Sell-out
Compare shipments with market demand to quickly identify where supply and demand are starting to drift apart.
Inventory Management - Distribution Centre
Monitor stock health, months of cover, and short-dated inventory to identify emerging risks before they become write-offs.
Inventory Management - Wholesalers
Compare inventory across all three wholesalers to quickly spot products that need attention. All figures synthetic.
These four views are a sample. The live dashboard has more depth, including SKU-level diagnostics, drill-downs, and filters. Explore the interactive version here.
A single, connected view of forecast quality, channel demand and inventory health, without having to piece the story together across multiple systems.
Supply planning is rarely about reacting to today's problems. It's about spotting tomorrow's risks early enough to do something about them. This dashboard brings together the signals that matter, so teams can act with confidence instead of hindsight.
